Use of Outdoor Spaces 

Yale’s outdoor spaces are for use by Yale students, faculty, and staff members (Yale community members), in accordance with rules that preserve these spaces for use by everyone. Yale community members who wish to use an outdoor space for a group’s event must follow the policies and criteria outlined in the Use of Outdoor Spaces Policy, and obtain permission from the relevant college, school, or other unit responsible for that space. Except as provided in this policy, requests may be submitted only by registered student groups and organizations in good standing and university departments. 

Space request applications must be submitted at least three business days in advance of the event. Some applications may require additional approvals and will require longer processing time. Submission of the event request does not equal approval. Approval will be confirmed via email.

Outdoor Spaces

Requests for use of other outdoor spaces should be directed to the following offices:

  • The SSS Courtyard has limited availability and is reserved for Yale departments only. To inquire about use of the space, please contact outdoorspacescentral@yale.edu.
  • The Heads of College for residential college spaces.
  • The Yale College Deans Office for Old Campus.
  • The Deans of Yale College and the Deans of Graduate and Professional Schools and spaces under the jurisdiction of those schools.
  • The relevant unit head for other university outdoor spaces that are not under the authority of the above-mentioned offices.
